Meeting Our Dentist For the First Time

It is common to find people who remain with their same dentist for many years as they feel comfortable with the service. However, under specific circumstances, such as moving to a new neighborhood, people have to find new doctors. Meeting a new dentist sometimes can be an overwhelming experience. However, at Village Plaza Dental Designs, we want to provide the necessary information about our services to ensure you will be ready and comfortable.

Here is a description of your first visit to our dentist.

Initial Consultation

During your initial meeting at our dental office, our dentist will thoroughly discuss with you the various treatments that we offer including those that specifically suit your needs.  They will guide you through the process and will be ready to answer any questions that you may have about your oral health in general.

New Patient Documentation

If you are pleased with the initial meeting, our team at Village Plaza Dental Designs will further assist you in scheduling an appointment for a formal check-up. Before the appointment, you will be required to fill out new patient forms along with providing any prior dental history/records. We suggest that you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to ensure that you have plenty of time to fill out these forms.

For your convenience, our office also provides the choice of filling out the forms before coming to the clinic. This means that you may visit our website and fill out the enrollment forms online. This saves you time and ensures an efficient and effective visit. Patients can download the health history forms from our website and fill in all the required details. This information will be stored in our database and evaluated prior to your session. Once our dentist reviews your health history forms and your appointment is set, you will be ready to meet our dentist again and begin your formal dental examination.

Comprehensive Check-up

After reviewing your dental health history, our dentist will examine your gums, teeth and mouth. This procedure is known as a comprehensive exam through which our dentist will observe the state of your dental health and hygiene. An important part of the comprehensive exam is the cleaning. The teeth and mouth are thoroughly cleaned before moving onto the X-rays so that there are no extra particles in your mouth at that time.

Our dentist will look for any sensitivity, decay and redness around the gums and teeth during the examination and explain any findings. Even though our dentist will review your medical and dental history in the forms you filled out, they might still ask you questions about your teeth while examining them. This is common and can help our dentist identify anything unusual or any information not mentioned in the new patient forms.

After conducting the comprehensive exam, our dentist will take an X-ray of your mouth, giving a clear picture of the status of your teeth and jaw. These scans are taken to better analyze oral disruptions, diseases and cavities. The X-rays are suggested to be performed either when there is a severe problem or routinely, once a year, to verify any changes from the last visit.

Although believed to be a lengthy process, X-rays usually don’t take more than a few minutes and are completely safe.  The procedure is simple and without discomfort. You will be asked to bite down on the gauze and only your mouth will be scanned by the machine. The rest of your body will be protected by a lead apron. After the procedure, the X-rays will be stored in your file for future reference.

Post Exam Consultation

Once the initial dental check-up is completed, our dentist will discuss the results with you. Our dentist will explain any findings such as irregularities or decay in your mouth, along with your overall oral health. They will mention the various treatment options that are offered at our clinic. Our dentist will suggest the most appropriate and detailed treatment plan for your specific needs, customized to your requirements and your dental issues. You will also have the opportunity to clarify any doubts or questions that you may have regarding your oral health.

Follow-Up Meeting

After meeting our dentist at Village Plaza Dental Designs in Lakeland, Florida, and discussing possible dental treatments in detail, we will schedule a follow-up session at your convenience. These follow-up sessions will be mostly for cleaning and preparing your teeth for the upcoming procedures.

We suggest visiting our office twice a year to prevent any cavities, tooth decay or any other oral health issue. During these routine checkups, the teeth are usually cleaned and treated to ensure that they remain in good shape. In addition, during these routine check-ups, our dentist can track your oral health condition and work on any preventive procedure to maintain your teeth in good shape.
